Update #002 - May 2021

Here I am, June 2nd, re writing this post because freaking Blogger editor is crap... and deleted all my draft when I was trying to copy a freaking table to it. Anyways... May did not go unnoticed to me at all, lots of interesting events in tha finance world, from the crash in Bitcoin and other cryptos, to a deep in the SP500, AT&T announcing Warner media spinoff, etc. Adding to all the financial madness, Ireland has provided some of the sunniest days I can remember, so all in all things in May were interesting.

Personal finances are looking good as well, second highest month in expenses coverage with passive income reaching 1.89%. As usual, mostly driven by the P2P portfolio returns and less than half by dividends from my stock portfolio. No big chances in the P2P portfolio, although a few things are not looking so nice. I did make some changes in the stock portfolio that you might find interesting, bought some deep in the lows we had in the first half of May

    P2P Update

The P2P portfolio returned €30.75 in May, second highest returns ever!

I was very happy to notice positive results from my decision back in April of leaving Bondora and moving the funds there to these other 4 platforms in order to improve the yield of my P2P portfolio. The anual avg yield has now climbed to 10.22% which is in line with what I was expecting, although closer to the low end but still :). Clearly here the only one holding my yield back now is Mintos:

Lately I'm feeling very dissapointed by the results Mintos is showing, not only they still haven't recovered my €43 from Akulaku but the current funds has dropped to 54% and there's a lot of crash being dragged 6% now (and this doesn't count the €80 euros that I moved to Finbee in mid May). Mintos seems to be slowly deteriorating and it's concerning

With this small change in May the P2P portfolio distribution now looks like:

I'll give Mintos a few more months, but if I don't see current funds above 70% in 2 months or if current funds drop below 50% by the end of June, I'll start to withdraw my money from the platform. I don't really like the idea of having only 3 platforms, but I like it even less the idea of not having the money working. Open to suggestions in terms of P2P platforms :).

If you feel like joining any of these platforms, you can use the following affiliate links and push me a step closer to financial freedom in the process :)

    Dividend Update

A rather interesting month for my dividends indeed! Got my first dividend ever by ALV (Allianz a German inssurance company), followed by T and ABBV and a few more companies. All together they reached a modest €21.16 which is the third highest dividend income ever :)!!!

May is my first dividend investing anniversary so I thought it would be interesting to show a year over year growth of my dividends. In May 2020 I got a super modest €2.43, so that's quite a grow isn't it?

    Stocks Update

I used May to make some small moves here and there, bought some good deals and got rid of my Comcast position as I had announced in here.

    Sells:

    • CMCSA: on May 26th I sold Comcast stocks at $56.5 resulting in a 40.9% gain compared with the $35.3 I payed back in May 2020 (exactly 1 year and 13 days before). I bought just 4 stocks back then since it was my very beginnings and was just picking up good dividend paying stocks, however now I see a bit of a dark future for Comcast. They don't have the power to fight the streaming war out there, and their only growing business (the Universal Parks) has been massively affected by the pandemic.

    Buys:

    • PLTR: on May 10th and 12ve I bought my first Palantir shares at $19.28 and $18.73 respectively. Palantir is a very promising big data and AI company out there, they are closing contracts with big governments (ie. US) and companies to provide highly customizable data analysis platforms. On top of that they are also investing in other tech companies, perhaps with the hopes of expanding their offer in the future. Is very early for this company, but I have waiting for it to drop below $20 for months so I jumped in when happened. This is a growth play.
    • CNQ: on May 11th I bought some shares of Canadian Natural Resources at $33.33. This isn't a new company in my portfolio, and is mostly a dividend play, they have a 4.4% yield right now.
    • RDSA: on May 31st I bought some share of Shell at €15.69. Same as CNQ not new in my portfolio, they are both in the energy sector and are getting some tail wind as the economy recover. I won't be increasing my positions in the energy sector for a few months (unless good deals show up of course) now since it has grown to almost 20% of my portfolio.

I know I still haven't finished my Stock portfolio section in the blog, but here is my current portfolio distribution:

    Overall passive income

As I said on the introduction of the post, it was a good month for my passive income, reaching the second highest expenses coverage with 1.89%. Of course this is still less than half my annual target of 5%, but it's on the the right path. As you can see below, my passive income is mostly dominated by the returns from the P2P platforms, however certain months the dividends take over :)

It feels nice to see this slowly growing, of course right now the numbers are rather insignificant, but the idea is to make this grow steadily but surely. If we take two points like May 2020 (€13.25) and May 2021 (€51.91) you could say my passive income almost went 4x in 1 year. Of course this high growth is mostly fueled by me adding money to both portfolios quite regularly during 2020 and a bit more moderated during 2021. I don't think I'll be talking about earning €200 of passive income in 1 year, however I'd be very happy if that was the case :).

    Monthly objectives review

Lets see what things I've achieved this month!

    • Stock analysis: jesus... ironically I was preparing a very nice analysis on Comcast. However instead I decided to sell them as I explained in the T article. Maybe a PLTR article would do!
    • Walk 60km: yessss! got this one nailed, according to Strava I did 63.1 Km during May.
    • Fix something: I did a very deep cleaning of my front yard, got rid of all the weed and cleaned the front windows :). This counts!

Jesus, this port took me some time, mainly considering that I wrote it twice xD... anyways here it goes!

    1. Thanks for the update!

Wordpress is also rather rubbish as a editor, but I’ve never lost a post. Anyway, unless I write a monthly update, I use google docs for writing and editing. Then when I am happy I copy and paste it in Wordpress editor. That way works much better for me.

If you would like to invest in property backed loans I’d would recommend Estateguru, Reinvest24 and Crowdestate.

      Have a great month! :)

    2. Thanks for the tips! I definetely need to give a try to the Google docs idea, the current workflow involves a lot of HTML edition that I purely hate hahah.
