Hi!, This is the somewhat intelligent investor (aka Juan), nice to meet you and thanks for stopping by.
I guess the best way to start this section is by saying that I am not a financial advisor (can barely do math lately to be honest :)) and therefore all you can read in this blog should not be considered financial advice at all. That out of the way, I can tell you that I am an Argentinian currently based in Ireland with certain attraction for investing and working my way towards Financial freedom.
This all started long ago, after reading “Rich Dad Poor Dad”. This book sparked in me a sort of financial awareness I lacked at the time. Since then I began to meticulously track my finances, knowing exactly where my money was coming from and where it was going. This is by the way the first and most important step towards financial freedom, if you don’t know where you money goes, whether your income covers your expenses or not you are what I like to call Flying Blind and should start working on that yesterday.
Anyways, despite having built a very strong financial consciousness and being able to save money, investing still remained like a sort of dark magic to me. I remember the first few stocks that I bought (which I panic sold to a loss a few months later) trying to dodge the suffocating Argentinian inflation, super high fees and knowing absolutely nothing about what I was doing, good old times. As you may imagine, I gave up on investing after this rather traumatic experience.
Some time went by (several years) and now I find myself in a very different situation, older for a start, with less hair but with more cash in hand. This is why in January 2020 decided to start looking into different ways to start building passive income to hopefully be financially independent by the age of 40 (that’s roughly 6 years from now, a bit too ambitious considering the time left, but you have to start somewhere).
Enough about me! Let's talk about The somewhat intelligent investor, (yes, the name is a parody of B. Graham’s The intelligent investor book, which I’m currently reading) it’s a blog or rather a journal where I plan to track my progress towards financial freedom and share my lessons learned on the way. At the time of writing this (March 2021) my strategy is mainly focused on two financial assets, stocks (mostly dividend paying, although some growth as well) and P2P lending (more details about my Stock portfolio here and my P2P Lending portfolio here).
I hope you find this interesting and potentially informative, by the way I’d like to encourage you to share any feedback you may have either through the comments on the blog or directly on thesomewhatintelligentinvestor<at>gmail.com.
